HeyGen is moving to credit-based plans to make pricing clearer, easier to understand, and more flexible as new AI video features become available. Instead of mixing unlimited usage with Premium Credit pool, credits now work as the main usage system across paid plans.

This article covers HeyGen’s credit-based Avatar & Video subscriptions. These are separate from our API plans or LiveAvatar plans.

Let’s start with the basics and better explain our Pricing Page by highlighting the key features in each current subscription type.

With credit-based plans, credits are used for video generation, translation and asset creation across HeyGen. Different features may use credits at different rates, and you’ll be able to see your credit balance as you create.

For individuals learning and exploring HeyGen

The Free plan does not use credits. Instead, Free users have a free video quota.

If you run out of credits on Pro, you can upgrade to a higher Pro tier with more monthly credits. Pro does not use one-time credit packs; instead, you can select the Pro tier that best matches your usage.

For teams and businesses that need scale, security, and advanced control

The Business plan is designed for growing teams and organizations that need advanced video capabilities, collaboration, and security features.

Business includes 1,500 credits per month for $149/month for the first seat, with additional seats available for $20 per seat/month.

Business users can purchase additional credits when needed. Extra credits cost $0.05 per credit and are purchased in blocks of 100 credits for $5. You can adjust the number of credit blocks using the + and - buttons in the add-ons flow.

Auto-reload is also available for Business users who want credits to be added automatically when their balance runs low.

Credits are the main usage system for HeyGen’s credit-based paid plans.

Credits can be used for video generation, translation, avatars, AI asset creation, B-roll, and other supported features. Some features use credits per minute of generated output, while others use a fixed number of credits per generation.

Note: Credit usage may vary based on the feature, model, duration, or generation type selected. When available, HeyGen will show the credit cost in-product before you generate.

Unused credits may roll over depending on your billing type.

If you cancel your paid plan and move to Free, unused credits do not roll over.

Business users can purchase additional credits if they need more than their included monthly credit amount.

Additional Business credits:

This makes the credit amount part of the plan itself, instead of a separate recurring credit pack.

Need more avatars than your plan includes? You can add more avatar slots with flexible monthly or yearly plans.

Add-On Pricing:

To access Add-Ons, go to the pricing screen, scroll down to Avatar Add-On, and click Purchase more avatars now. From there, you can select as many Video Avatar slots as you want. Use the plus and minus signs to adjust the quantity before heading to checkout.

️ Note: If you're on a monthly plan, the checkout window will default to the monthly option, but you can toggle to yearly if preferred on the pricing homepage. For those on a yearly plan, only the yearly option will be displayed.

If you cancel your paid plan and move to Free, unused credits do not roll over.

When you upgrade to a higher plan or Pro tier mid-cycle, you’ll be charged the prorated difference and receive the additional credits right away. Your full new credit allocation will apply at the start of your next billing cycle.

Downgrades usually take effect at the start of your next billing cycle, so you can continue using your current plan until the end of the billing period.

If you downgrade to a lower paid monthly plan, eligible unused credits can roll over for one additional billing cycle. If you cancel and move to Free, unused credits do not roll over.

️ Note: Pausing your plan does not cancel it entirely—it simply postpones the next charge by 30 days from your last billing cycle date. If you'd like to pause indefinitely, we recommend canceling your account. All of your avatars, videos, and projects will still be accessible when you're ready to sign back up.

You can upgrade your plan anytime through your Plan & Billing settings. Upgrades take effect immediately, and you’ll receive the additional credits based on the plan change.

No. If you cancel your legacy unlimited plan or switch to a credit-based plan, you will not be able to switch back to the old legacy plan.

No. If you are already on a legacy paid plan, you can keep your current plan as long as your subscription remains active and in good standing. This article is for credit-based plans.
