Need B-roll, product shots, or cinematic background clips without filming anything? HeyGen Creative Studio lets you generate B-roll video from a text prompt using several AI video models in one place, so you can pick the model that fits your shot, your length, and your credit budget.
HeyGen Creative Studio brings video, image, and voice generation into one app. It replaces the separate AI Video Generator and Generate Images apps.
Where do I find HeyGen Creative Studio?
Go to Apps in the left sidebar.
Open the HeyGen Creative Studio card. It opens in Video mode.
Use the Video, Image, and Voice tabs at the top to switch modes. Each mode keeps its own prompt and settings while you switch.
šļø Important note: HeyGen Creative Studio is rolling out to accounts gradually. If you still see AI Video Generator and Generate Images in Apps, your account has not been switched yet. Enterprise accounts keep the classic apps for now.
How do I generate B-roll video with HeyGen Creative Studio?
Open HeyGen Creative Studio and stay on the Video tab.
Click the model picker (top right of the composer) and choose a video model. See the table below to compare them.
Describe your shot in the Describe your shot box. Mention the subject, camera movement, lighting, and mood. Click Script Enhance if you want AI to rewrite your brief.
Optional: click Add to attach an avatar, a start frame, or reference images, videos, or audio, depending on what the model supports.
Pick the length, resolution, and aspect ratio. These options only show what your chosen model supports.
Check the credit estimate and click Generate. Your shot appears in the creations area below the composer.
š” Pro Tip: Not sure where to start? Tap one of the inspiration tiles under the composer, like Multi-Scene Cut, UGC-Style Ad, Dynamic Camera Move, or Multi-Character Scene. They fill in a prompt and settings for you.
Which video model should I choose?
Click the model picker to see every video model. Models are grouped under Frontier (our top picks) and More models, and each row shows the credit rate (per second or per video) and the type of input it accepts.
Here is how the models compare:
Model | Credits | Inputs | Length | Resolution | Aspect ratios |
HeyGen Video | 0.2 credits/sec (480p) | Reference or First Frame | 5, 8, 10, 15 sec | 480p, 768p, 1080p, 2K | 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 21:9 |
Seedance 2.5 | 7.7 credits/sec (720p) | Reference or Frames | 5 to 30 sec (5 sec steps) | 720p, 1080p | 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4 |
Seedance 2 | 5 credits/sec (720p) | Reference or Frames | 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15 sec | 720p, 1080p | 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4 |
Seedance 2.0 Mini | 3 credits/sec | Reference or Frames | 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15 sec | Fixed | 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4 |
Veo 3.1 | 90 credits per video (flat, any length) | Prompt only | 4, 6, 8 sec | 720p, 1080p | 16:9, 9:16 |
Gemini Omni Flash | 17 credits per video (flat) | Prompt only | 5 sec | Fixed | 16:9, 9:16 |
Wan 3 | 17 credits per video (flat) | First Frame / Last Frame | 5 sec | Fixed | 16:9, 9:16 |
Wan 2.6 | 30 credits per video (flat) | First Frame only | 5, 10, 15 sec | 720p, 1080p | 16:9, 9:16 |
How credits are charged: models priced per second charge the rate in the table multiplied by the length you choose. For example, a 10 sec Seedance 2.5 clip at 720p costs 77 credits (10 x 7.7). Veo 3.1, Gemini Omni Flash, Wan 3, and Wan 2.6 charge a flat number of credits per video.
These credit rates apply to HeyGen Creative Studio only, not to other HeyGen features. The model picker and the estimate next to the Generate button always show the exact cost before you create a shot, and rates can change.
What is the difference between Reference, First Frame, and Prompt only?
Prompt only: describe the shot in text. No images needed.
First Frame (and Last Frame on some models): your image becomes the first or last frame of the clip, so the video starts from or ends on that image.
Reference: upload images, video, or audio, or add an avatar, to guide the look of the result. The model uses them as inspiration instead of a fixed frame.
ā ļø Caution: Frames and references cannot be used together. If you add one, HeyGen Creative Studio clears the other and shows a notice. Switching models also resets length, resolution, and aspect ratio to the nearest value the new model supports.
š” Pro Tip: HeyGen Video does not accept reference audio on its own. Pair the audio with an image or a video and it works.
How do I change the length and resolution?
Use the pills at the bottom of the composer. Click the length pill (for example 5s) or the resolution pill (for example 720p) to see the values the selected model allows. If a model has a single fixed value, that pill is not shown or does not change.
Which image models are available?
Switch to the Image tab to generate stills with the image model of your choice. Every image can also become a video shot by clicking Animate, which opens Video mode with that image as the first frame. Credits per image are in brackets.
Group | Models (credits per image) |
Recommended | HeyGen Image (2), Seedream 5.0 Pro (2), GPT Image 2.5 (2), Nano Banana 2.1 (2) |
Frontier | Flux 2 (2), Flux 2 Max (4), Nano Banana Pro (5), GPT Image 2 (2), Recraft v4 Pro (6) |
Standard | Nano Banana 2 (3), Flux Kontext (2), Seedream 3.0 (2), GPT Image (2), Ideogram (2), Runway Gen4 (2), Recraft v4 (2) |
Fast / Drafts | Seedream 5.0 Lite (2), Nano Banana (2) |
š” Pro Tip: HeyGen Image puts the people in your photos (up to 5) into the look of a template you choose. It does not use the prompt.
Which plans can use which models?
Free: every video model is locked. Clicking Generate opens the upgrade prompt.
Creator: Seedance 2 and Seedance 2.5 are locked (Pro only). HeyGen Video, Seedance 2.0 Mini, Veo, Wan, and Gemini models are available.
Pro and above: every model is available.
Enterprise: continues to use the classic AI Video Generator and Generate Images for now.
No credits are charged when Generate is blocked by a plan lock.
Why did my generation fail, and do I get my credits back?
If a generation fails, the card shows the reason, your input thumbnails, and these buttons: Re-edit, Copy prompt, Copy ID, and Delete. Credits for a failed generation are refunded automatically. Click Re-edit to restore your prompt, references, model, and settings in one click and try again.
If you run out of credits, a message with a top-up option appears. After you top up, your next generation goes through.
When should I contact support?
If a generation keeps failing or your credits were not refunded, contact our support team through the chat widget. Include your account email, the model and settings you used, and the workflow ID (click Copy ID on the card).
