Generate AI Videos vs. Veo 3.1 Avatar Video
Both tools use Veo 3.1, HeyGen’s latest AI video engine, but serve different creative purposes:
Generate AI Videos is for creating realistic backgrounds and ambient scenes that can be used later in AI Studio. Ideal for dynamic environments, cinematic backdrops, and contextual visuals.
Veo 3.1 Avatar Video focuses on lifelike avatar-driven scenes, supporting multiple characters, natural motion, and expressive animation. Ideal for storytelling, interviews, and interactive content.
Both leverage Veo 3.1’s cinematic realism and smooth motion for high-quality video production — faster and more affordable than traditional methods.
How to Generate Background Footage Using Generate AI Videos
1. Open the Tool
From your HeyGen homepage, go to Apps → All Apps, then select Generate AI Videos.
2. Select Your AI Engine
Choose your desired model under the Model dropdown. You’ll see your remaining video generations at the top.
Standard [Hailuo 02 Pro, Kling, Seedance, Sora 2] = 15 credits per video
Premium [Sora 2 Pro, Veo 3 Fast, Veo 3.1 (Image to Video)]= 45 credits per video
Advanced Premium [Veo 3.1 (Reference to Video)] = 90 credits per video
3. Upload your reference photos (if applicable)
Different AI engines have varying requirements for reference images when generating video backgrounds — some may not need any at all. In certain cases, an engine may also require you to select a reference avatar.
4. Choose Orientation, Audio, and Prompt
Select either portrait or landscape mode. You can also choose whether to include background audio, then type your prompt to describe the video you want to generate.
Tip: If you’re using Sora 2 or Sora 2 Pro, you can set the video duration manually.
5. Generate Your Video
Once you’ve set your parameters, click Generate Asset in the bottom-right corner.
Alternatively, click Use Assets in AI Studio to immediately apply your generated background to your next avatar video.
6. Download or Find Your Video in Media
After processing, you can download your video directly by clicking on the download icon on the right corner or find it directly in the AI Studio. If processing takes longer, you can close the tool, your video will appear automatically once ready.
You can find all generated media directly in the AI Studio. Just click Media in the sidebar, then select My Media.
