We’ve redesigned the HeyGen Editing Studio with simplicity in mind—especially for users who’ve never edited a video before. Instead of complex timelines or editing software-style tools, the new Editing Studio offers an intuitive, streamlined way to create videos with your avatar. You’ll have more control over your script, avatar, scenes, and voice settings—all without needing to learn traditional video editing. This guide will walk you through how to get started and make the most of the new experience.

First, in order to get into the Editing Studio, you'd need to click on Create on the left side menu, and then on Create a Video. Here you can choose between Landscape or Portrait mode, as well as if you want to start from scratch, create using photo to video, use a template, upload a PPT/PDF to work from, or start by video agent.

For your first video, let's go with the Create in AI Studio option to keep things simple.

Now you're in the Editing Studio! Let's go over the options you have on our right side menu.

Choose from our public Avatar collection or upload your own. You’ll find a variety of public styles to fit your brand—professional, lifestyle, UGC-style, AI-generated, and community-created options are all available.

Enter any script you’d like your avatar to speak—using any language. This is also where you’ll customize your avatar’s voice, including the accent, tone, model, speed, and more.

You can find additional AI Tools like Script writer, Motion Designer, Image Generator and Video Generator to take your video creation experience to the next level.

Add Media elements to your video such as background images, and videos!

Include text elements like titles, subtitles, or headlines directly in your video. You can fully customize the text’s size, font, color, position, and more to match your style and message.

You can bring your video to life by adding music from our Music Library or upload your own.

Make your videos more dynamic and accessible by adding stylized captions. Choose from multiple caption styles to match the look and feel of your content. These will sync to each word in the final output.

Once you have all the elements added you can check which layer a specific element is set by selecting layers.

You can also create videos using our API instead of directly through the HeyGen platform. The HeyGen API allows developers to programmatically generate videos, create and customize avatars, and access a range of other features that may be available on the platform.

This option is ideal for those who prefer a more flexible, hands-on approach to integrating HeyGen’s video and avatar capabilities within their own systems or applications. The API provides the tools to create custom workflows, automate video production, and incorporate HeyGen's technology into broader projects, allowing you to create videos without needing to use the HeyGen app interface directly.
