Captions [or subtitles] make your videos more accessible, improve viewer engagement, and help reach a wider audience, including those who are hard of hearing or prefer watching without sound. They're also great for SEO, making your content easier to discover online!
How to Add and Edit Captions
Below explains when and how to add captions to your video, depending on the editor you’re using:
For any finished Studio Avatar Video (Both Legacy and New Editing Studio) Standard captions [small, on-screen captions with no word-sync] can only be added after submission.
For ongoing projects/drafts in New Editing Studio: You can also add stylized captions before submission of your video, directly inside the new studio! These captions will sync with the words of your script and appear large on screen.
For Proofread Projects: Select the captions checkbox when clicking Submit.
Adding Captions to Translation Projects Without Proofreading
For translation projects without proofreading, captions must be added before submitting the project.
Please note that in this case, advanced caption controls like style, color, or speed are not available. If you’d like to edit the caption text itself, choose the Review & Edit option when submitting your project. This allows you to edit the script, and any changes will automatically update the caption text.
Adding Captions to a Finished Translation Project (After Submission)
You can still add captions to a finished translation project, but only by submitting the video for translation into a third language.
That said, this isn’t a recommended workflow. Once a translation is finalized in your chosen target language, submitting it again—just to add captions—adds an unnecessary step.
However, since some users prefer this method, we made it available as an option!
We hope you enjoy using our caption tools to make your already amazing content even better!
