You can easily create an Avatar in HeyGen using the Photo to Video feature powered by Avatar IV. Follow the steps below to get started.

1. Open the Photo to Video Tool

From your Homepage or by going to Apps → All Apps, click on Photo to Video.

2. Upload or Select a Photo

You can either:

  • Upload a photo you want to use as the base for your Avatar IV video, or

  • Choose from the sample photos shown at the bottom of the screen.

If none of the sample photos fit your needs, click the Refresh button to load new samples.

3. Write or Generate a Script

Once your photo is uploaded and your preferred orientation (landscape or portrait) is selected:

  • Type your own script in the Script box, or

  • Click Sample Script to generate a random short script or a movie line for your avatar to perform.

When you use a Sample Script, a voice may be automatically preloaded if the line comes from a movie. For randomized scripts, you’ll need to choose a voice manually.

4. Adjust Motion and Expression Settings

You’ll see a few customization options before generating your video:

  • Motion Generation Mode:

    • Faster – quicker results, fewer credits used.

    • Quality – higher-quality animation but uses more Generative Credits.

  • Expressiveness: Choose between Low, Normal, or High expression intensity.

  • Custom Motion (Optional):

    • Describe specific gestures or facial expressions you’d like your avatar to make.

    • You can also select from the generated motion prompts.

    • Click Refresh if none of the suggestions match your desired character.

  • Resolution: Choose between 720p or 1080p for a higher resolution

5. Generate Your Video

Click Generate video. Once the video is generated, you can go to your Avatars tab, and that’s it! Your new Avatar IV avatar should be ready to use!
