What if the generated video isn't exactly what I expected?
Like any AI-powered creative tool, Video Agent may occasionally produce results that need a few adjustments.
If you'd like to make changes, you have two options:
Prompt the modification directly in the Video Agent chat. Simply describe what you'd like to change (for example, "replace the background," "change the third scene," or "use a different image"), and the agent will update the video plan accordingly.
Edit a copy in AI Studio for full manual control. AI Studio allows you to fine-tune elements such as text, visuals, timing, avatar scenes, and layouts, making it the ideal option for polishing the final output.
Does chatting with Video Agent use credits?
No.
You can:
Ask questions
Brainstorm ideas
Research topics
Create a video plan
Refine the plan
Ask the agent to rewrite scripts
Continue iterating on the blueprint
All of this is free.
Credits are not consumed during planning.
Does creating a Video Plan cost credits?
No.
Creating or updating a Video Plan is completely free.
You can modify it as many times as you'd like before generating the video.
When do credits start being used?
Credits are only consumed once Video Agent begins generating actual content.
This includes generating assets such as:
Talking avatar scenes
AI-generated images
AI-generated video clips
Motion graphics
Other AI-generated media used in your project
Final video generation
Why does every project cost a different number of credits?
Every project is unique.
The total depends on the types of assets Video Agent needs to generate.
For example:
Lower credit usage:
Using uploaded media
Using existing stock assets
Simpler avatar videos
Higher credit usage:
AI-generated images
AI-generated video clips
Motion graphics
More AI-generated assets overall
Longer videos
Because each project uses a different combination of assets, there isn't a single fixed credit cost.
Does using my own images save credits?
Generally, yes.
If you upload your own media instead of asking Video Agent to generate new AI assets, fewer AI generation steps may be required, which can reduce overall credit usage.
Do stock assets cost the same as AI-generated assets?
Generally, existing stock assets require less AI generation than creating brand-new AI images or videos, so projects that rely more on stock assets may use fewer credits.
Can I see a detailed breakdown of credits?
Not currently.
At the moment, HeyGen does not provide a line-by-line breakdown showing exactly how many credits were spent on each generated image, video clip, avatar scene, or motion graphic.
You can see:
The total credits required before generation begins.
Your overall credit usage for the video in Billing/Usage History.
Will Video Agent tell me the cost before generating?
Yes.
Before generation starts, Video Agent displays a confirmation card showing the total credits estimated for that generation.
If I edit the Video Plan, does it cost credits?
No.
Editing the plan is free.
Credits are only used when actual media generation begins.
Does asking Video Agent questions cost credits?
No.
You can continue chatting with the agent without using credits.
If the generated video isn't perfect, what should I do?
If the generated video isn't exactly what you expected, there's no need to start over.
Once your video has finished generating, you'll see the option to Edit a Copy in AI Studio. This creates an editable version of your video, allowing you to manually fine-tune the output.
With AI Studio, you can adjust:
Text
Timing
Images
Videos
Layout
Avatar scenes
If your changes are minor, you can also describe the modification directly in the Video Agent chat, and the agent will update the project for you. For more precise control and final refinements, Edit a Copy in AI Studio is the recommended workflow.
Does editing my video in AI Studio use credits?
It depends on what you modify.
Most edits, such as changing images, videos, layouts, captions, or timing, do not consume additional credits on their own.
However, credits are required whenever an avatar scene needs to be re-rendered. This includes changes that require regenerating the avatar's animation and lip sync, such as:
Editing the script or spoken text.
Changing the avatar.
Selecting a different voice.
Regenerating the avatar audio or animation.
Should I keep using the same Video Agent conversation forever?
We don't recommend it.
For the best results, we recommend starting a new Video Agent chat for each new project or major revision.
Long conversations can accumulate context, which may reduce the accuracy of future generations. Before starting a fresh chat, gather the key information, instructions, and preferences from the previous conversation, then paste them into the new chat as a clear project brief.
What if the generated voice isn't the one I wanted?
If the generated voice isn't what you expected, you have two options:
Option 1: Ask Video Agent to modify it
Simply describe the change you'd like in the Video Agent chat (for example, "use a more energetic tone" or "change the voice"), and the agent will update the project accordingly.
Option 2 (Recommended): Edit a Copy in AI Studio
Once the video has been generated, select Edit a Copy in AI Studio.
Open the affected scene.
Select the correct voice.
Regenerate the audio.
Preview the audio to make sure it sounds right.
Once you're happy with the result, generate the video!
Previewing the voice before generating helps ensure it sounds exactly the way you want and can save you from unnecessary regenerations.
What if my project fails to generate?
If your project fails to generate, we recommend continuing the conversation with Video Agent instead of starting over.
First, ask the agent about the root cause of the issue. In many cases, Video Agent can identify what went wrong and help resolve it automatically.
It can often:
Explain the likely cause of the failure.
Identify the scene or asset causing the issue.
Remove or replace the problematic or corrupted element.
Regenerate a new version of the project.
Once the project has been successfully generated, you can continue refining it by prompting additional changes in the chat or by selecting Edit a Copy in AI Studio for more precise manual fine-tuning.
How to switch to Avatar Unlimited in Video Agent?
The Legacy Unlimited Creator plan includes access to Unlimited Mode. Once you've used your monthly generation credits, you'll automatically have the option to switch to Unlimited Mode and continue creating videos using a dedicated set of supported tools.
You can switch between your available generation credits and Unlimited Mode directly from the generation screen once your monthly credits have been exhausted.
How to use the same Avatar that was used on previous Video Agent Videos?
To reuse an avatar you selected in an earlier project, open the Avatar Picker located above the Video Agent chat.
You can then browse:
Recently Used to quickly find avatars you selected in recent projects.
My Avatars to access avatars saved or created in your account.
Your previous avatar selections are automatically saved in these sections, making it easy to use the same avatar again.
When working with Video Agent, you can also describe the avatar you are looking for, including details such as the person’s appearance, outfit, gender, or environment. Video Agent may then help you locate a similar avatar from the available catalog.
