🛎️ Enterprise users are advised not to begin migration using the current flow, and to hold off until mid-January 2026. We will reach out to all our Enterprise users separately to help migrating your avatars and workflows.

Migration Overview

Migrating from HeyGen Interactive Avatar’s to LiveAvatar can be a bit tricky. This guide helps step through the major pieces to make the migration as seamless as possible. The main steps you’ll need to take are:

  1. Copying over assets using our migration flow

  2. Transitioning your implementation

    1. Migrating your subscription

    2. Updating your implementation.

1. Copying Over Assets

To start this first step of the migration, navigate to app.liveavatar.com. You need to be the main space owner of your team space to have the migration button appear. We will detect automatically how many interactive avatars you have and help migrate them using this flow.

🛎️Important- you need to use the same email in LiveAvatar as in HeyGen for LiveAvatar to identify your account.

This will include your interactive avatars, the voices associated with those avatars, and the knowledge bases (renamed contexts in LiveAvatar).

Currently we do not support migrating individual voices and will only migrate the default voice for each interactive avatar. We expect to offer more voice choices ( creating new voices+ migrating existing voices by end of January 2026)

When starting the migration, on LiveAvatar side we will automatically migrate all assets over. We do this by making a copy of each asset from your HeyGen account into your LiveAvatar account.

🛎️ Since this is a one-time copying process, any changes made in your LiveAvatar account will not reflect in your HeyGen account. Similarly, any changes made in HeyGen after the migration will not reflect in LiveAvatar.

When the first step is completed, we will show the following message:

2. Transitioning your implementation

i. Migrating your subscription

After copying over your assets, if you do not have an existing LiveAvatar subscription, we will grant you a temporary LiveAvatar subscription ( both slots + Credits) for 30 days. During this trial period, this will enable testing of the new migration changes and your changes will work across both LiveAvatar and HeyGen Interactive Avatar.

We recommend starting this free trial after you've already started working on your new code so you can quickly implement it and use this free month with a working code to test your new implementation.

This free trial doesn't require any payment information, and does not renew automatically like a subscription so you can test LiveAvatar risk free!

ii. Updating your implementation

After you tested your new code in your Dev environment, you should connect it to your new LiveAvatars and complete your setup!
Now you can cut your existing API calls from HeyGen and move everything to LiveAvatar.

Here's some technical documentation explaining the code-difference between new LiveAvatar and HeyGen API

As you migrate to the new LiveAvatar APIs, please flag any issue to us in our forums or support services.

Frequently asked questions

Who will see the migration flow?

All paid HeyGen users will have access to the migration flow, with differences based on their Interactive Avatar status:

  1. Free Interactive Avatar users
If you just signed up or are not paying for any Interactive Avatar plans, you will be invited to LiveAvatar to start fresh.

Additionally: if you used to be a paid user and your email has expired custom interactive avatars or a custom knowledge base in Interactive Avatar, LiveAvatar will automatically find and migrate those for you.

  2. Owners of a HeyGen Space with active paid Interactive Avatar subscriptions
If your space has an active paid Interactive Avatar subscription and you are the space owner, you’ll be prompted to start duplicating your assets into LiveAvatar while maintaining normal access to Interactive Avatar.

  3. Members of paying HeyGen spaces
Members can still access Interactive Avatar as usual, but cannot duplicate assets into LiveAvatar.
Only the Space Owner can perform the migration for the space. We will support space-users on Live avatar by end of January 2026.

Using Interactive Avatar During Migration

Can I still use Interactive Avatar after starting the LiveAvatar migration?

Yes. Interactive Avatar will remain fully available for your space and API access.
If you have active Interactive Avatar subscriptions or paid activities, nothing will be interrupted by starting your LiveAvatar migration. Only once you are done migrating your avatars, building and successfully testing your code, you can begin to remove interactive avatars from your platform and replace them with LiveAvatars.

Team Access & Collaboration

How can I invite my teammates into LiveAvatar?

Currently, every LiveAvatar account owns its own assets and plans.
Team invitations are coming soon—we’ll notify you once the feature is available as we will support space-users on Live avatar by end of January 2026.

Spaces are missing in LiveAvatar — what should I do?

Spaces will appear in LiveAvatar by end of January 2026.
If you're a multi-seat team, we recommend waiting until Spaces are supported before fully migrating.
If you need to start earlier, your team can temporarily use the space owner’s credentials to work inside LiveAvatar.

Avatar & Voice Behavior

Where are my voices in LiveAvatar?

Each avatar comes with its own default cloned voice.
A full voice-selection panel is being released in January 2026.

My avatars look or sound different after migrating to LiveAvatar — why?

There is no technical difference in avatar or voice quality between Interactive Avatar and LiveAvatar—they use the same underlying model.
If you notice unexpected differences, please capture a screen recording and provide the avatar_id to our support team.

Migration & Development Process

What is the recommended migration workflow?

  1. Build your new LiveAvatar integration in your development environment.

  2. Test thoroughly to confirm everything works.

  3. Replace your existing Interactive Avatar code with the new LiveAvatar implementation in production.

Credits, Plans & Billing

If I already have a paid Interactive Avatar plan (slots + API credits), what should I do when switching to LiveAvatar?

Begin by setting up and testing LiveAvatar in your dev environment.
Once your code is fully switched over, you can choose to use your API subscription and credits to produce videos in HeyGen instead of streaming interactive avatar. If you need further help, please reach out to our team at [email protected] with any requests regarding your previous API subscription.

If I switch today and buy LiveAvatar credits, what happens to my Interactive Avatar API credits and paid slots?

You are free to choose what to do with your API subscription and credits if you like to now use it to produce videos in HeyGen ! If you need further help, please reach out to our team at [email protected] with any requests regarding your previous API subscription.

What happens to my purchased Interactive Avatar slots? Can these be used in LiveAvatar?

Interactive Avatar slots do not migrate into LiveAvatar. You will need to switch to one of the LiveAvatar plans. You can start with the 30 days free trial before purchasing your LiveAvatar plans.

Data & Asset Migration

What will happen to my existing Interactive Avatars?

After you migrate, they will remain in the Interactive Avatar space as well. We recommend deleting them only when your migration is 100% complete and your platform is running 100% LiveAvatar code.

Is my Interactive Avatar still accessible after I switch to LiveAvatar?

Yes, your interactive avatars are still accessible in the same place as before after you switch.
