In the HeyGen Editing Studio, you can customize your script's audio by adjusting the voice to match your individual projects. Whether you're crafting a professional explainer, a lighthearted promo, or an internal training video, selecting the right voice helps set the tone for your message. You can choose from a wide range of voice options across different accents, genders, and styles — all designed to bring your script to life. Each voice is AI-generated and optimized for clarity, making it easy to find one that aligns with your content’s purpose and audience.

Create Video: Select the Create Video button on your homepage then Avatar Video to get started in the Text Editor.

Access Script: Start by navigating to the script section in the Text Editor and hovering over the default avatar name to access your voices. Need script tips? Check out this article next!

Change the Assigned Voice: Browse the Voice Library and select the one that fits your needs. Don't forget to adjust the 'emotion' 😄 to fit your project goals!

Apply Voice to Other Scripts: To keep things consistent for your whole project, use the 'Apply Voice to All' button, which assigns your selected voice to every script in your project.

Fine-tune your voice settings to match your project’s needs. You can adjust the pitch, volume, speed, and other settings to get the perfect sound for your video. Please note that pitch changing is only available for a select few voices, allowing for unique tonal variations where supported.

New Feature! 🌟 Director Mode [or Voice Director] gives you full creative control over your avatar’s voice performance. Whether you want your avatar to sound calm, excited, sarcastic, or anything in between, this tool lets you fine-tune the tone and delivery — right down to the emotion in their voice.

Here’s how to access and use Director Mode in the new Editing Studio:

Click on the Voice Director Icon

Look for the megaphone icon 📢 in the left-hand toolbar. Click it to open the Voice Director panel.

Choose a Tone
You’ll see a list of preset tones, including: Excited, Casual, Calm, Cool, Serious, Funny, Angry, Sarcastic. Click Reset to start from scratch.

View and Edit the Voice Prompt
Once you select a tone, you’ll see a short written direction that tells the AI how to deliver the voice. You can either use the default prompt or customize it for your own vibe.

Click Save + Preview Your Changes
When you're happy with the tone direction, hit Save to lock it in. Click the Play button in the preview window to hear your avatar deliver the line in the selected tone.

What do the different Voice Models Mean?
When using your custom voice on HeyGen, you can choose which ElevenLabs voice model powers it. By default, we use Multilingual v2, a solid all-purpose model that works well across different languages. If you’re looking for faster speaking speed, consider switching to one of the Turbo models—just note that some of them are English-only.

Can I translate my script to be read in another language using one of the Voices?
Yes! You can write your script in any language and seamlessly translate it into another within the Text Editor. Simply click the 'Translate' button in Voice Settings and select your target language.

Can HeyGen or third-party Voices be used in translation?
AI-generated voices are available for use in the translation feature for Team and Enterprise Users via Proofread.

How can I integrate my ElevenLabs [or other third-party] Voice into HeyGen?
