Getting Started with Proofread
To generate a video for proofreading, start by creating a translation video, then choose whether to upload a video file or paste a link from either Youtube or GoogleDrive. Then, select "Generate Proofread."
On the proofread creation page, choose the same options as you would for a regular video translation: the original language, the target language (you can optimize for locale here), the number of speakers, whether to use an internal brand voice, and finally, whether to enable dynamic duration, keep the original video specs, and/or translate the text within the video.
After selecting these options, you can choose to upload an SRT or ASS file to streamline the proofreading process.
Editing Your Proofread
After your proofread is complete, head back to your dashboard homepage to access the project. Inside the project, there are several options available to you for editing—let’s break them down one by one.
Change the Speaker
Did the tool assign the wrong speaker or inaccurately sync the lip movements? No problem—adjust the speaker selection by clicking the 'Speaker' column and selecting your preferred speaker.
Change the Voice
You can keep the original speaker's voice from the audio or replace it with a custom voice or one from HeyGen's voice library by selecting the 'Voice' next to the speaker.
Adjust the Script
Need to add something, correct a mistake, emphasize a different point, or delete something entirely? You can do all that within the Proofread Studio. Just click into the section in need of editing and make your corrections.
If you didn't upload a script file earlier, you can do so now to pre-populate the section with an edited script.
Saving Your Proofread Files
Need to back up your work? You can download the Excel file, the translated SRT file, or the original transcript SRT to save outside of HeyGen.
💡 Pro Tip: Accidentally made an edit and want to view previous versions? Simply select "Get Versions" to access your edit history.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

If you are not an Enterprise user but are interested in this tool, please reach out to [email protected] to learn more.
Can I use custom voices with Proofread?
Yes, you can keep the original speaker's voice, use a custom voice, or select from HeyGen's voice library.
I'm getting an error that the start time and end time match. What does that mean?
If you receive the error "start_time>=end_time", it means there is a section of the proofread where the start time of one line and the end time of the previous line equal each other. Start and end times need to be different per line to ensure a speaker does not speak over themselves. See the below for clarity:

Line 1:
00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:04,000
Hello, welcome to the video.
Line2:
00:00:05,000 --> 00:00:08,000
This is an example of correct start and end times.
