Creating a great script is key to getting the most out of HeyGen’s Editing Studio. To help you craft smooth, engaging scripts, we’ve put together a few tips that focus on improving the flow, accuracy, and overall quality of your content. From using pauses to perfecting pronunciation, these guidelines will ensure your script delivers the best results.
Use the 'Pause' Button for Natural Flow
To add a pause:
Move your text cursor to the desired location of your pause.
Click the Pause button under your scene's script box.
Each pause represents a half-second break. You can edit the seconds of the pauses for longer breaks.
To create pauses between sections, You can add a scene with just a pause in it. This will create a silent still avatar between scenes.
Incorporate Punctuation Marks
Hyphens (-): Separate syllables for clear pronunciation.
Commas (,): Create shorter breaks.
Periods (.): Introduce longer breaks with downward inflection.
Ensure Correct Spelling and Language Consistency
Spell Correctly: Double-check your script for spelling errors.
Language Consistency: Avoid mixing languages. For instance, do not include Arabic words in an English script.
Use the Pronunciation Feature
If you preview your script and notice some words aren't pronounced correctly, you can double-click them and select "Pronunciation." Here, you can type the desired pronunciation and even use hyphens (-) to emphasize it. This is especially helpful for acronyms, like "AI" (which should be "a-eye") or "AWS" ("a-double you-s").
‼️Important note ‼️ - When you apply pronunciation rules to your script, this will automatically save these for future words under your Brand Glossary so you won't have to do that for every single video!

Write Numbers Out for Easy Reading
You can write out numbers or use phonetic spelling for clarity. For example:
"2012" becomes "twenty twelve."
"3/8" becomes "three eighths of an inch."
"01:18" becomes "one minute and eighteen seconds."
"10-19-2016" becomes "October nineteenth, two thousand sixteen."
"150th CT NE, Redmond, WA" becomes "150th Court Northeast, Redmond, Washington."
